What is the most challenging part about being an entrepreneur? What is the most rewarding part?
The most challenging part is the production schedule; we need our clothes to go online around the same time as everyone else in retail each season. Since we work on a tighter schedule, we're often a little more under the gun; and because we're perfectionists, it can be a pretty stressful process. But seeing the product and hearing how much customers enjoy wearing our pieces makes it all worth it.
What is the most valuable lesson you have learned so far as an entrepreneur that you would pass on to young women aspiring to be entrepreneurs?
There's a lot of talk in the media about 'entrepreneurship' especially in the retail tech world. The truth is, it's never as glamorous or easy as it looks in the press. Catherine and I were only willing to take a risk because we had experience and connections. Even though we've learned so much through doing, I'm ever thankful that we had and have those relationships. I'd also encourage young women to really try to zero in on their customers; you don't have a business without a customer base, and they're the ones you're working to serve. So even if you have a great product, make sure it's something the market is interested in buying.
